check if the current implementation handles all corner cases, especially such specific to using it in a header (encoded words):

[X] in headers the set of unecoded characters is smaller
- I have a custom (and tested) encoding for encoded words
[X] the maximal length of an encoded word is limited
- I have a custom (and tested) encoding for encoded words

and fix issues found this way:

[X] needs some refactoring and a single module interface independent of backing implementation and usage (transfer encoding/encoded word)
