I got the similar problem on Ubuntu 10.04, my pidgin is 2.6.6
Error:ABI version is not compliant to 2.7.x(needs 2.6.x)

Hello, thanks for your report.
Under both Windows 2003 and Ubuntu 10.04, could you please tell me the version
number of libpurple ? It is located in Help -> About dialog box.
Windows 2003
---
pidgin : 2.7
libpurple : 2.?.?
Ubuntu
---
pidgin : 2.6.6
libpurple : 2.?.?
Also, under Windows 2003, what is error message is displayed in the debug
window ?

We are having the same issue. Doesn't work on a fresh install of Ubunto 10.04
32 bit. works fine on my older 64 bit installation.
