Enhancement proposition: Propose to save or not save password #39

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Most of the time, corporate users are required to change their password, and
trying to connect to GAL with a wrong password may conduct to password beeing
blocked.
I propose to have to possibility to stor or not to store the password in the
preferences, so that if it is saved, then the app continues to work as it does
actually, and if it is not stored, then, the information are populated in the
settings pane, except the password, which is the only input the user has to
enter.

Thank you for your message and using my app. This does sounds like a really
good suggestion.
However in the latest release, I added in a feature where if the user has saved
the wrong password, the app will only try to query the Exchange server once. If
the server responds with an "Authentication failed" message, the app will no
longer try to connect to the server and ask the user to fix his / her
credentials.
I can definitely add a checkbox, that allows the user to choose whether to save
/ not save his pasword. But I worry that this might become a usability issue.

So your last update is fine if a specific error message is displayed while
error 401 is raised.
I have some other enhancement ideas. Maybe it would be easiest to
communicate directly mail.
Just to tell you:
I really appreciate the already proposed enhancement to lookup a phone
number in the GAL to retrieve the name. This could at least be a search
method after having missed acall. On addition if the app does this lookup
while receoving a call it os really better. As proposed by the other guy
this could be confogured to lookup only phone numbers starting by a
confogured prefix
Nevertheless i do not know of exchange proposes a way to lookup a phone
number.
Another enhancement would be to retrieve the user's picture. But i am not
sure it is accessible through GAL but LDAP. if it is possible ot could be
nice to be able to save the poctue and to associate it to a phone's contact.

Other idea: propose the app as a wodget.
One another one: try to find a way to integrate it to androod's contact
app...

What a lot of job for you!!
Good luck!!
And, should you have any question do not hesitate to contact me.
Kindest regards.
Tytou.

Hi there

Thank you for your comments,I really appreciate it. A few comments off this

- My app does return a very specific error (check username and password) when
it receives a 401 from Exchange.

- I think the idea of looking up a number during an incoming call is excellent.
However it will take some time to implement. I have a couple of features that I
am looking at right now. Once I complete those, I will start working on this.

- A user's picture is not available via GAL, but I am checking to see if it is
possible to retrieve it via some other mechanism.

- Widget - That is again something I am thinking of adding in the future.

- Integrate with contacts app - This is already a feature that was requested by
someone ( see Issue #24 ). I am planning to add this sometime in the future as
well.

- I just performed a get on the SVN head of the trunk and it seems to work for
me. Do you have Android SDK 2.2 installed?

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. Please keep them coming. You can always also
email me directly ( vivekiyer@gmail.com ).

Thanks
Vivek
