avoid appending undefined path #232

When the path is undefined, we get an error msg starting with colon:

`: my error msg`

Hi @junaid-ali, sorry for the delay...I was backpacking in the Grand Canyon for a week without cell service. However, I'm no longer the maintainer for this project. Others will take a look when they are able. Thanks for your contribution!
