Feature Request: Add time zone to profile #174

Profile currently shows country, having the time zone would be a big help too. User case: As a Unit Leader I am trying to determine a more amicable drill time for the unit. My Unit spans multiple time zones from GMT-1 to GMT+7. Forum discussions have provided blocks of time that have been suggested by the individuals and knowing each individuals timezone would also help. This is on the enlistment papers I would like to see it transfer through to the profile. Similar to issue #100, though not just for TPs.

Enlistment forms actually ask what time range they prefer, not what timezone they're in. You may be in EST but prefer drilling closer to midnight so you'd select the GMT "range." We then assign the cadets to a particular TP and unit based on that. With that in mind, what would we put on the profile and of what value would it be?

I would place on the profile the preferred gaming timezone. I feel this would be editable by the individual at anytime. This would be most helpful for those in command of a unit (Company/Platoon/Squad) to understand the timezone needs of the person. CP2 has be encountering this issue on a regular basis and I know CP1 has too. I would have to believe this issue exists elsewhere in the Battalion. If the person does not keep it up to date it would be their fault. Plus it would reduce some management burden to command on having to changing it for them. Though I don't see changing occurring often, but there will be shift between Euro and US summer/winter periods when they don't align properly and would need to shift twice a year for a brief period.

Interesting...now you've got me thinking...what if we did something more like a doodle for each squad member where they tick off each timeslot that's ideal for them?

MTurczyn64 commented 9 years ago

+1! then if it could be extended to display the availability map on a leadership page (think Alerts on the old forum) that would be great.

wilson29thid commented 9 years ago

Can you help me find a tool for that? Doodle is one option, but there may be a better one. Or perhaps a mockup to help me visualize it if it will require custom coding?

MTurczyn64 commented 9 years ago

@wilson29thid Here is something I do by hand using excel after polling the unit for availability for drill times. drilltime 1 As you can see at a glance I can determine overlaps of the members to help visualize availability.

@Turczyn29thID sorry for the delay and thanks for the visualization. The more I think about it, the more I think using doodle.com might make the most sense for this -- it's free, and they already have the functionality you painted above. Perhaps it's just a matter of spreading the word?
