Instalation steps...

Hello Everybody
I am trying to install appGRABBER V5 usb-capture-video to convert VRC tapes to 
DIGITAL with my Linux Mint 17.1

I did all the steps:

lsusb first told me:
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 1c88:0007 Somagic, Inc. SMI Grabber (EasyCAP DC60+ 
clone) (no firmware) [SMI-2021CBE]

when i installed:
    somagic-easycap-tools_1.1_i386.deb 
and     somagic-easycap_1.1_i386.deb 
with Gdebi
and I installed the .sys file
of course i got the /lib/firmware/somagic_firmware.bin

then, after "sudo somagic-init"
lsusb tells me:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 1c88:003c Somagic, Inc. SMI Grabber (EasyCAP DC60+ 
clone) [SMI-2021CBE]

I plug everything in the usb..
I open VLC, SMPlayer even CHeese. but i only got to see video-0 which is my 
webcam..

Why can i see an video-1 for example to choose this usb-device? 
I am lost, i don't understand what should i do now...

Please, could you tell us in the GUIDE?

and this is very weird because when i tried to open it in TVtime ( i installed 
with software center) when i choose NTSC only my webcam (i am with a laptop 
with webcam integrated) appears as device... and when i choose PAL...FRAMES TOO 
SHORT FROM uvcvideo "I can't open device /dev/video0"

I don't know what to do... i need another device /dev/video1... and i need to 
know why it doesn't appears if i did all the steps well without errors..
Please, more information, or help.

hi, it is working as designed.

the code is basically two parts, kernel code and user code.

if you want it to show up in /dev/video1 compile the kernel module.

In the user code I run:
#somagic-init
that uploads the firmware (like you did above)
#somagic-capture | mplayer -vf yadif,screenshot -demuxer rawvideo -rawvideo 
"pal:format=uyvy:fps=25" -aspect 4:3 -
displays the capture. You can use vlc or ffmpeg to write it to file etc

I concur that the documentation is totally unclear; From looking at that page I 
do not have a clue about what is required. All? Just the first download 
section? Both?
What about sound support? All the commands lines are referring to video stream, 
nothing about audio stream?

Ubuntu users, read carefully: libgcrypt11-dev  needs to be installed not 
libgcrypt11

In the end after skimming the internet for about a week I gave up on being able 
to see a /dev/videoX appearing so I could have integrate that with a PVR on 
Kodi.
Sometimes it is very hard to be in someone else shoes.
Ubuntu 14.04, Easycap usb2.0 somagic (showing as DC60+ clone).

Hi. I'm not familiar with kernel building for Linux. Can you describe what 
steps did you follow to make it work on Ubuntu?
