When in debug mode it should be VERY clear that you are in it (dark menu bar across top of editor with easy close button maybe)
Bugs with current status:
Clicking on a node in the REPL returns the graph to the state the graph the was in when that run was made. This is correct. It doesn't put the property panel in read only mode, this is incorrect, and it exits debug mode when you hover the graph, this is also incorrect.
