The Treaty of Babel was a standardization effort by the Interactive Fiction community. the two things it resulted in that we care about are the Blorb object format for containing fiction files and related resources, and the standardized bibliographic data format.
While these are relatively minor features (nothing breaks if we don't support them) it will make Fictions easier to distribute, more likely to appear on things like the IFDB, and just generally give our project a cleaner and more professional feel.
