as per https://discord.com/channels/223421264751099906/305208145020715019/861484996895703050, Tonel was introduced to avoid having one file for each method, which is much slower, also due to write amplification: most methods are much smaller than the minimum block size a disk/ssd can write. A simple accessor is at least 4 KBytes
