All thumbnails are blinking on multiple image upload

When multiple images are uploaded, already during the upload thumbnails are
created. But it seems that when creating the new thumbnail or during upload
thumbnails of the previous uploaded images are hidden. I expect that during
thumbnail creation the sprite is not active

I'll check on this later today, but I don't remember writing anything which 
turns off
the spriting.

My guess is that the sprites are removed because the directory contents have 
changed,
and the blink is caused by the sprites being recreated.

I think maybe the sprites were a bad idea... might have to revert to individual
thumbnails again - they may have been slow, but they worked.
