additionally, if start tether first and then start wifi, tether is showing the
like its
still working on android, but my laptop no longer can use the connection (stops
working) and/or disappears.

The "Don't disable wifi" option makes only sense if you use bluetooth for
tethering.
If Bluetooth is not checked this option has no impact to the startup-procedure.

This means ... if you want to tether via wifi, the wifi-interface has to be
restarted
(to bring it in adhoc-mode). It's possible that other apps can't handle such
restart.

re: harld.mue
"if you want to tether via wifi, the wifi-interface has to be restarted"
do you mean tether start will always kill (to restart) existing wifi connection?

"It's possible that other apps can't handle such restart."
I get same results if I don't use Wefi, but start wifi from Settings --> Wifi
wifi gets killed on tether start and not restarted. If I start it manually
after
tether is started, tether connection stops working (the tether app shows as ON,
but I
can no longer use and/or connect to it.)
btw, I tried this on cyanogen all 4.0.1 through 4.0.3.1

I have the exact same problem with Sapphire 1.0 on Droid1. Tethering used to
work, then suddenly started killing the wifi when turned on. It seems like an
app conflict, but haven't changed anything since it was working.

any advice

Guys you can't be on wifi and tethering over wifi. There is only one wifi radio
in your phone, it can't be a hotspot and be connected to a wifi connection at
the same time... there is no point to it if it did work... can;t you just
connect whatever is using wifi to the same wifi your phone is connected to?????

You can connect to wifi when connecting using Bluetooth because the bluetooth
isn't already being used...

The wifi tether feature is meant to tether your 3g/4g over wifi... not tether
your wifi over wifi.. it just doesn't work. its not a problem with the app.

If they are talking about the issue I'm having, it's not trying to do both at
the same time, rather, AFTER tethering is stopped, the normal WiFi will no
longer start. In fact, no matter what I do, as long as the tethering app is
installed, built in WiFi is not available once it's stopped the first time.
Option in phone's settings accepts click, but never checkmarks and starts WiFi
again.

Only way I've found to get it going again is to uninstall the tethering app. I
tried the "leave WiFi state alone" setting but no joy.

Hope this can be resolved because you've made an awesome app here.

I agree, I am using 2_0_8_Pre1. After I have used this program a single time,
and then disconnect (even restart the phone so the program is no longer in
memory), I can not turn on the Wifi on my phone to connect to a network. The
only way my phone will allow me to connect to a hotspot after I have used this
program a single time is to uninstall this program.

I had a similar problem but in reverse. I had to reboot the phone when turning
wireless tether off normally to get it to work again.

Now if I push the home button (leaving wireless tether on) then enable wifi I
get a weird error, the it turns off wireless tether then turns off the wifi.

Maybe try turning off wifi before you start wireless tether, then kill wireless
tether by turning on wifi.

On samsung fascinate using v3_1-beta2.

Starting with experimental version 111, if I turn on tethering, my Samsung Epic
Touch 4g's wifi will not turn back on after I turn off tethering. A hot boot
doesn't solve the problem either. A full reboot is needed. I have reverted to
version 110. I had duplicated this bug in 111, 112, and 113.

Comment 5 is correct: Turn on your MOBILE or 4G setting. The app itself now
controls the wifi signal.

Comment 6 - exact same issues as mine.

GSM HTC Hero Stock Android 2.1 and VillainRom13 both experience the problem.
This problem has existed for some time with this app, it needs attention.

I have galaxy s 2, and its rooted. Tether works fine and I can connect to it
with internet access. But when I turn off tether and try to enable wifi on my
phone, it does not work at all, even after reboot. But tether still continues
to work. This is a very serious problem as I must be able to use wifi on my
phone at work.

We have the exact same issues as post 6 and post 13. We have a rooted Samsung
Exhibit II T679. Unless we un-install the WiFi Tether app, we can not use WiFi
even after disabling WiFi Tether access. A re-boot does not help, only
un-installing the app gives us access to wifi again.
