We need story and lore, any ideas? #9

Do something!

If you want me to, prepare for some badass lore ideas:

first of all to make this species actually relevant we need two things:

For the first one: One thing could be shields as we do not have many species with shield tech, also to give them something weird make the shields also reduce incoming damage by uh... say 5 percent?

For the second one: So, there is this AI thing that can be expanded on, also they were predators originally I guess... We need some kind of conflict, internal or external, everything else would be boring... The conflict should involve politics, combat but also surveillance and standard missions

So how about this: For years a debate was going on, between the ones who think that AI should just be used for the most simple tasks as it is too dangerous to use for more. But then the powerful AI was developed and the ones who were against AI's saw themselves threatened, so they tried to destroy the research facility as long as the AI still existed only there. They failed as the other side was prepared for an attack.

Since then their civilization has been split. Even though they were not really fighting, you would be able to speak of a major crisis.

The player meets them in this state, the story would evolve around the conflict and the ethical components to it.

It is most def a good idea, Let me ping SlavWolf on DC and see if I can get him to respond to this.

Hmmm! Very interesting idea, @RisingLeaf ! How about... the pro- Artificial Intelligence (ooh, we need a name) "faction" or side initially wins the war, due to the AI being powerful and all, it kinda predicts the Anti-AI side's moves. They lose the war effort, having to go into hiding, waiting for their grand return... The incredibly powerful Ai makes the pro-Ai side nearly invulnerable, it seems that the anti-Ai side has no chance to ever win. But then the Ai betrays it's creators, and goes rouge. Wiping out it's original allies, it encapsulates itself in an empty void of dead planets, systems... It becomes rampant. The lack of any input that could create any new neural connections slowly starts creeping up on the sanity of the Ai. It begins deleting more and more of it's own memories to save space, the more it deletes, the less it can judge what memories are necessary and which ones aren't. It goes insane in a empty, black abyss of... nothingness. But then! But then, the player arrives in the unscathed, surviving systems of the anti-Ai side (maybe way earlier). They tell them what happend, and get a few story line missions (maybe something more creative than the classical "Gain their trust" or something), before the player and maybe with a few joint strike ships from the Lupainians, they "attack" the dead systems, preparing to regain them, similar to the ending of the main plot with the pug systems. What they find... is... (well, i think i already said that..) death. The anti-Ai side didn't know of their wiped out enemies. The player afterwards somehow encounters the Ai. The inconsistency, the lacking repetitiveness of interacting with a human being start to build up new neural connections in the Ai. It soon regains consciousness! So, (ooh, multiple endings, maybe?) (1): either the Ai (maybe sees its mistakes, and) becomes good or something (2): or, the Ai goes rouge again and tries to kill everything again. It then is up to the player to save the remaining Lupaininans, fight the Ai and survive! ...? My imagination of a continuation...

This sounds promising

The AI idea is interesting, however, they really only use AI in computer systems, they value handcrafted items more than any machine crafted items. Aka, they like bespoke furniture and stuff like that.

TheSlavWolf commented 1 year ago

I mean they do use AI in production of some very hard to craft items.
