Proposal for new connection name separator (issue #120) #132

This PR introduces the new connection name separator !!::!! for the settings string, addressing the problem of semicolons in connection names (#120). However, we should have a look at how to “migrate” from semicolon to the new separator, see the “Fixme” comment in add_connection. It’s a rather ugly solution.

I’ve rebased onto current upstream/master. Do you have any suggestions on this fix?
