I would definitely love to have a kind of "Key ring" that you can add a key and it updates the key ring to be able to permanently act as any key item added to it. It would be a huge quality of life change, this would also make max loading no longer an issue.
Without this kind of ability however personally with the collection of keys I have I would be against losing them effectively making me to redo zones that I may have forgotten about for years. In that case I would need to rebeat a quest after losing gear.
Also I am curious as to which max load keys don't load that causes the issue, I was under the impression that was not a thing any more I thought all keys were set to always load.
Remove max load from quest keys and add a 7 day timer to them to have them poof.
Here is my idea for keys, and the issue of so many.
I first wanted to address a broader problem, and that was with our skill PICKLOCK. The skill is rendered mostly useless due to the common use of the !picklock flag to force players to search for the keys and use them in order to progress through questlines.
My proposal: Bring in a new SUBSKILL called Locksmith:
Locksmith will allow a person to learn a "new lock type" every time they have found and used a key in the appropriate lock. Quest-type keys would be allotted 5 slots to remember keys of a players choice. This allows a player to pick those 5 locks, thus removing key-dependency.
Every time Locksmith is improved by 10%, 2 additional slots are made available.
Upon mastery of the Locksmith subskill, it'll become Master Locksmith, which then unlock your ability to remember any and all quest-related keys that you've used from that point forward (in addition to the ones you've slotted already).
You are the keyring. The Master key. They Skeleton key. THE KEYMASTER!
As I'm rooting around as a mort, refreshing myself on all the glory that is 4D from the bottom up, I have quickly come across a max-loaded key. I know we've tried addressing this key-hoarding issue over the decades. We do like to hoard. XD
We could key some sort of IMP command to do a proper key-purge of all keys to get a proper spring clean done. I say this because the area I was stuck in due to max-loaded key means that current/future new players will be stuck in the exact same spot and likely just get frustrated. Perhaps it is time to wipe the world clean of keys and let them load anew?
What are the possibilities of getting such a command made?
Is is possible to script a quest item to be a sort of "master key" where it can take on the properties of found keys and allow it to be used in their place? This could help with the hoarding issue too.
