What is 5by5craft?

5by5craft is a Minecraft server for fans and friends of the 5by5 Internet broadcasting network. Thanks Dan!

Server address: creeper.5by5.tv

Server type: Mostly vanilla Minecraft, PVE (Player Versus Environment), PVP (Player Versus Player) disabled.

Server accepting members: Currently whitelist only. Tweet @5by5craft to join.

General Rules

• NO CORPORATE STOOGES. (Corporate employees are okay. Just don't be a stooge.)
• Please don't be a jerk. 5by5craft is a friendly and welcoming environment. If you wouldn't say or do something to someone in the real world, don't do it here.
• No racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise hateful speech will be tolerated and can result in a kick or ban.
• No offensive or inappropriate character skins.
• Harassment of any player can result in a kick or ban.
• Young players are often present. Please use your best judgment with that in mind.
• No sharing private information about other players in chat.
• You are responsible for your own account. If it is used to break the rules by someone else, it is your responsibility and it can be banned.
• No sharing illegal content.
• Be respectful.
• Please don't email Dan.

  Gameplay Rules

• No killing or trapping other players in any way. Tricking other players into a deadly or dangerous position is also not allowed.
• No griefing, including breaking blocks in other players' builds, spamming out-of-place blocks, dropping lots of items, and killing or stealing mobs enclosed in another player's build.
• If you find griefing, leave it the way it is and file a moderator request (modreq). Stand next to it and type '/modreq ' so an admin can check up on the user responsible.
• No attempting to get around server protections, including chest and region protections and anti-cheat plugins.
• No mods that give the player an unfair advantage, including invincibility, flight, speed, insta-break, x-ray, or World Downloader.
• No texture packs that reveal ores or otherwise simulate x-ray mod effects.
• Mods that are okay: Optifine, Rei's Minimap, and InvTweaks.
• If you have a mob farm/grinder please do not idle at it for long (>15 mins) as it slows down the server.
• Any automatic farm that produces items should destroy them as well if a player isn't present.
• Don't leave too many items on the ground. This can slow the server down.

  Building Rules

• Never remove something you did not build yourself, no matter what it looks like.
• If you have a problem with a structure, stand next to it and do '/modreq ' and a moderator will look into it.
• No NSFW builds.
• Be a good neighbor. Don't build very close to other players' builds. It's a big map with lots of space. Builds that are too close may be relocated without warning.
• Be aware of how your build may block the view or disrupt the landscape that other nearby players might be enjoying.
• Scaffolding, 1x1 "derp towers," and other temporary builds should be removed as soon as they are no longer needed.
• Abandoned or incomplete builds may be removed if they affect the surrounding area in a negative way or make it difficult to build nearby.
• This also applies to low-quality builds like netherrack and cobble boxes, single-block roads, sky roads and sky rails.
• Any removal and relocation will be done at the discretion of the server moderators.
• The Nether is considered volatile and may be reset for 1.5 and/or at various points in the future. While we will attempt to make it known when this is going to happen, it's best to not store valuables in the Nether or build anything substantial.
• The MobLimiter plugin is being used to control mob populations so as to not slow down the server. Once you have left the area or signed off, mob populations will generally be reduced to four of each type. Find out more here.

  Banned Stuff

• Player-made portals

  Protections & Locks

• Structures and areas can be protected by mods so that only you or others you add to the region can modify it.
• Protections will only be given to structures that are built and a moderate buffer around them. Protections are not to be used to claim land.
• Mark corners (only of what you have built) with obvious blocks (colored wool is good) and add signs if needed to explain.
• Type "/modreq protect my build marked with [block]" in the chat and a mod will come to protect your build when they can.
• Protections go from the sky limit down to about 10 blocks below the lowest point of your build.
• No sub-regions within regions. If you're adding someone to your region only add them if you trust them.
• Speak to a mod if there is griefing.
• Unless specific permission is given, killing other players' animals or villagers is considered griefing. Unclaimed wild mobs may be killed.
• Chests, furnaces, brewing stands, anvils, beacons, dispensers, and jukeboxes can be protected by typing "/cprivate in the chat."
• More detailed information on protections and locks can be found in the castle at spawn.

This is great, look over https://github.com/5by5craft/BulkBag/wiki/Rules and make sure this update covers everything there, and if it does then you can put this version on the Wiki.

After that I will add it to the Announcement rotation and server join message.

Another thought, maybe a visual version (screenshots + text descriptions) of the Protection guidelines would be good to put on the wiki on its own separate page, in addition to this. Similar to what's at spawn, but more step-by-step?

Yeah I used the stuff you had written there directly in some cases. The only things I left out was:

This is the second iteration of 5by5craft. (The first can be downloaded here.) There are no warps, teleports, or item spawning commands. Requests for teleports or items will be ignored.

I thought that that was really only there due to the switch from the rules of the old server and we don't need to say it anymore since it says that it's mostly vanilla and there were no expectations of that. I can add that back in if you think it should be there though.

I think a visual version of protection guidelines would be good, yeah.

You can include the notes about warps/teleports/item spawning because that's also for people who are coming from other servers where those things are more common.
