Where to put login info? and more... #12

> What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
How am I suppsed to log in? If I click on "options..." I only see options 
having to do with the visual aspect of the gadget. How can it see my Google 
Calendars? I also see a red message saying "Please login to change the 
visibility of your calendars". Does this mean it somehow magically got to 
my Google account even if I didn't tell it anything? And how am I suppsed 
to know what to change the visibility to? Should my calendars be public? 
(argh!)

> What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.0.0.0 on Windows Server 2003 S.E. SP2

I am having the same problem as criguada - No place to login via the options.
I am using v1.0.0.0 of Google Calendar on WinXP SP3 and Google Desktop 
5.8.0811.04345

when i went to sign in it was not using the options screen... i had a log in 
screen 
on the actual widget....try expanding the widget if it is collapsed.

i have tried expanding, undocking, moving, resizing, removing and re-adding the
widget a number of times with no luck.
One thing that I did notice is when the widget first loads, I get a message 
something
like "an internet connection is required to use this widget". Obviously, I have 
an
internet connection - and a number of my other gadgets are connecting to 
internet
without any problem - but maybe the calendar gadget isn't able to connect for 
some
reason?

I have the same gadget behavior as jeff.r.smith. No matter what I do I cannot 
see a 
login screen on the widget. The widget looks as if it was correctly connecting 
to my 
google account (but how?), but it doesn't show any of my events.

i am not a developer for this... i am having issues of my own but is maybe a 
firewall 
setting blocking it or do you have a port disabled which it requires.

Well, that may very well be the case, but then I would expect the GMail gadget 
to 
fail also. At least some info on the protocol and/or the ports used by the 
gadget 
would help configuring the firewall, if this is indeed the problem.
Also nobody replied on the "calendars visibility" issue. What kind of 
visibility am I 
suppsed to give to my calendar? I'd like to keep it private, and I don't see 
the 
reason to change it *IF* the gadget asks for my login info (which it doesn't 
presently).

I have solved the problem for all of yours! I'm thinking How Google may be

The line 550 ant the file events.js in the gadget is unterminated correctly. 
When I 
use the Google desktop gadget designer,it show me the error. The line at 550 
is: 
title = title.substr(0, this.TOOLTIP_LENGTH - 1) + '鈥?; Then I go to 
http://code.google.com/p/google-calendar-gadget,Where I checked the source, The 
'鈥?; 
should be '…'; 

My OS is Windows xp sp3 Simplified Chinese. So the '鈥? should be other 
character in 
your Language.

The login is now in the main gadget screen. Be sure to resize the gadget so 
it's 
visible. Also, try selecting "Sign out" from the gadget menu.

matrix: i think the options dialog needs better explanation text. people who 
had the 
old version may think the login form is in the options dialog.

Is it enough to just extend the text in the options dialog e.g. "Please login to
change the visibility of your calendars. The login screen is located in the 
main view
of the gadget.". Another option would be to add a second login form to the 
options
dialog.

I have NO login form on the main screen, and i have NO "sign out" option in the
gadget menu! Sheesh...

Three screenshots:
1) Loading the app
2) Looking at the menu
3) Looking at options

At work, this application works perfectly. So I know what I'm supposed to see, 
but on
my home computer (all else being equal, as far as I can tell) it does not work.

I can post my screenshots too, but they are identical to what you see in the
screenshots of bianca.lee, apart for the fact that I use the "Day" view. It may 
seem
obvious, but just to be clear let me say that the agenda does NOT show my 
events.

Oh, I almost forgot to add that I ran the Gadget in "debug mode" like suggested 
by
james.yum. I have the same message as bainca.lee (You need an internet 
connection to
use this gadget). GMail gadget works without problems. I am behind a corporate
firewall here that lets HTTP and HTTPS through (on standard ports). One needs to
configure a proxy though (without authentication)... but GMail gadget discovers 
this
autonomously.

I also ran into this issue with XP x64, no login screen just the message "You 
need an 
internet connection to use this gadget."  No proxy or firewall to speak of.  
(I know that 64bit XP isn't officially supported by google desktop, however 
when 
running it in 32 bit mode all my other gadgets work fine including GMail and 
weatherBug.)

Im having the same problem using win xp 64...I dont know if its possible to 
override
the internet connection detection somehow, so the gadget actualy shows the 
log-in
screen, then try to log-in and see what happens...Its just an idea, i dont 
really
know what im talking about, anyway it would be great if there was a fix to the 
problem...

...oh, and another thing, i tried with the previous version of google calendar
gadget,v 2.001, and it worked fine...but it doesnt have all the functions i 
would like...

Are all people who have this issue running XP x64 ?

I have added a test version of the gadget to this comment. This test version 
assumes
that you are always online. Could someone with the issue give it a try? This 
would
help in identifying the exact problem. Thanks.

Tried your test version.  It gets closer to working.  I do see the login 
screen, I 
logged in and then it displays the "You need an internet connection to use this 
gadget" message.  "Loading..." is displayed at the top and in the options it 
does 
show the names of my calendars.  My events aren't displayed, however I can add 
new 
events and have them show up when I look at them in a browser.  A screenshot is 
attached of what I see.  It sounds like the internet detection for XP 64 has a 
bug.

I tried the test version as well - and had *exactly* the same results as Eric. 
But I 
am using 32-bit windows xp, not 64-bit.

Looks like for you the framework.system.network.online attribute, available 
through
the Google Desktop API returns false even if a network connection is available. 
This
should effect all gadgets which use this to detect the online status.

I am using XP 32bit. I tried the test version. I could log in (yay!), and it 
imported
my calendar, but not the holiday calendar, and the loading image would not go 
away
until I clicked Refresh.

I had the same problem with the windows date and time screwed really bad. Once 
I 
changed the date from January 1st, 2006 to the correct one, it started working. 
Guess 
it is SSL and the certificate is not yet valid.
