When I scroll up and down the widget, it triggers the widget's niagara options. It's very frustrating to interact or use the widget. Widget's name: Stuff

Screenshot_2021-07-01-13-38-11-123_bitpit launcher I'd like to add my personal and friend's concern about the amount of data that you want to collect with the next update related with your project digital wellbeing. we consider that even though you don't have "access" to the content of the messages and other. It's still a severe privacy issue, and we could say extreme and intrusive to personal privicy because who would like to have a group of people, who you don' t know, collecting every move, you do on your smartphone.

Basically, you want to know every move (even if we are walking, running, driving, etc). I personally got scared when read your medium article about the update, and I'm very sure my friends as well because they were the ones who shared me the info and started talking about it.

The worse thing of it is that it created a distrust around Niagara Launcher now because we are not full programmers or experts. We don't know if niagara were collecting all that data since the beginning, or if it will collected anyways even if the person rejects to be part of it. I personally wants to trust you, but I/we think is a step back for personal privacy.

it is true that the article mention that it is up to the person to provide data or not, so u must write an article where u explain how to not be part of it; also, the steps that a person has to follow if she/he wants to request their data, in order to make the process more transparent.

it's frightening the capabilities that niagara will have if it isn' t already have them. I think that if you want to contribuye with peoples's digital wellbing, you can do it by implementing your ideas and not hungry for data collection because that is what paople are running from nowadays.

I use niagara launcher because I trust in you, but I hope you that there are many people like me who are getting more distrustful towards everything everyday.

Thanks for the report @Just-SKY. I tried to reproduce the bug with the Google Calendar calendar schedule widget but to no avail. After I moved my finger, the widget starts scrolling and does not open the options dialog. Only if I don't move my finger (and haven't scrolled already), the options dialog opens. Can you please check if the Google Calendar widget works for you as well?

About the wellbeing initiative, I understand your concerns.

The worse thing of it is that it created a distrust around Niagara Launcher now because we are not full programmers or experts. We don't know if niagara were collecting all that data since the beginning.

I believe this is a good thing. You now get insights into what other launchers and apps can collect. In contrast to analytics services from other apps, our wellbeing initiative is voluntary (and disabled by default), auto-deletes personal data and is transparent: https://help.niagaralauncher.app/article/120-digital-wellbeing-initiative.

it is true that the article mention that it is up to the person to provide data or not, so u must write an article where u explain how to not be part of it.

Participating is entirely voluntary and not the default. You only participate and share your phone usage and physical data when you tap on "I'm in" in the Digital Wellbeing analytics prompt or enable the setting in Niagara Launcher's analytics settings.

also, the steps that a person has to follow if she/he wants to request their data, in order to make the process more transparent.

We already did that ;) https://help.niagaralauncher.app/article/121-digital-wellbeing-initiative-data

I hope that this could clear up things a bit, thanks again!

About the bug, I tested the google calendar as you told me and used its widget. It presented the same issue as the other widget. When I scroll with one swipe (one touch), it triggers the bug around 80% of the time. However, If I keep the finger on the screen while scrolling, it triggers the bug around 50% of the time.

Actually, it is less problematic in that way, but it's very annoying that I have to be careful in orden to use the widget. Here is short sample, so you could have a better idea. Sorry for the video quality, I don't have screen recorder. Also, it doesn't matter where the widget is located (scree or pop-up).

Xiaomi - MIUI 12 - Android 10

One idea, that comes to my mind or possibility, is that when I keep pressing an app or widget, Niagara triggers the settings' options to fast (around 1s or less). It is just idea I have of course. I think that it could be affecting the widgets

Actually, I know the amount of data that a launcher can collect. The reason why I use and will continue using Niagara Launcher is because I trust you and your team. Also, I like the transparency that you show with your users (community). I hope you keep with your transparency and don't let me (us) down. Congrats for your hard work and keep it up. 😉

Thank you both for your kind words and for the video. Quite strange that the long-press menu opens while scrolling, it doesn't do that on my phone. I'll try to reproduce the issue with other devices.

8bitPit commented 3 years ago

Hi again, @Just-SKY. We tried to reproduce the issue on several devices and could do it with a custom ROM (we also tried a Xiaomi device, but it has MIUI 11). However, this custom ROM has a bug that crashes the launcher when displaying a widget in debug/development mode. I'm not kidding 😅 We found an XDA where someone mentioned the widget bug from, and they used the same ROM; it seems there's nothing we can do to fix the crash. However, the scrolling bug should be fixable, but we haven't found a device yet to debug the issue.

I have this same issue. Hope there's a resolution at some point. Happens on my OnePlus 7 Pro.
