More than 4 widgets in stack #2280

Is your feature request related to a problem?

Hi

The widget stack is very useful, but my personal needs require more than the limited 4 widgets accessible:

  1. Gmail
  2. Outlook mail (work)
  3. Tasks app
  4. Notion
  5. Personal weather app (more accurate than Niagara)
  6. Work profile calendar (not accessible to Niagara)
  7. Personal finance app

Also, I like trying out new widgets and it's very difficult with only 4. I'd be happy if there could be an option/flag to remove the limitation.

Describe the solution you'd like

I'd like there to be a toggle in options that allows me to remove any limitations on the number of widgets in a stack.

Feature Request Procedure

Hi @dehyde, Thank you for your suggestion! We understand your desire to remove the limit. However, it is important to note that widgets can potentially consume significant phone resources, and allowing users to add an unlimited number of widgets will negatively impact the launcher's performance and cause stability issues. So in order to ensure a smooth and stable experience across all devices, we set a limit of 4 widgets per stack. Currently, we do not have plans to offer the option to remove this limit. Nevertheless, there is a possibility that we may consider increasing the limit in future updates.

We hope you understand the rationale behind our decision.

Hi and thank you for your reply! I would hope to be able to opt-in to a higher number of widgets, while understanding the risks. My phone is powerful enough and on other launchers I've user up to 7-8 widgets sometimes, and it really streamlines my workflow and helps me avoid navigating to the same apps every time. I fully understand the rationale and I think that allowing advanced users to increase that number as an option, while communicating to them the risks of that option, should mitigate the problems of having many widgets with the benefits.

Thank you for your work 🙏

you could create a popup folder and add other widgets in there(again, as a stack of 4s)

Hi there, I'm copy/pasting what I sent to the customer support here.

Why make decisions on behalf of the user?

I really like the launcher, but I wish I had the freedom to use as many widgets as I need. I don’t get why you want to make a supposedly better decision than me for my home screen.

For my personal use case, I want to have:

Calendar and today's events The time in Paris and Istanbul MyFitnessPal calorie tracker DayCount widget for my current deadline Todoist widget I’m not happy with the Widget Stack—I want to see everything at a glance without swiping to get the information.

I'm okay with higher RAM consumption and potential performance issues; I arbitrage those trade-offs myself.

Could you at least give the option with a warning hidden in advanced settings?
