launcher lag/unresponsive + crashes #2729

Describe the bug

In the morning when my alarm goes off I can't silence or cancel the alarm as my phone is unresponsive to touch. Eventually I can with enough tries. It's extremely laggy, transitions are laggy, probably 2-10 seconds of lag between input and registering, phones frame rate is either 0 or 1. Eventually Niagara launcher crashes,I get a pop up to close it out wait, or I can restart my phone which resolves it.

I suspect it's because I have 30+ Facebook Messenger messages (business) by the time I wake up. Doesn't seem to happen on days when I don't get that many messages. Few other notifications, Gmail etc.

Only started happening when I switched to Niagara, Nova and stock launcher are fine.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Charge phone over night
  2. Get 30+ Facebook Messenger messages and a few other notifications (Digital, Gmail)
  3. Try to use phone.

Does the issue also occur with other 3rd-party launchers?

Problem doesn't occur with other launchers

Other 3rd-party launcher(s) tested

Device name

Google pixel 8

Android version

Thanks for reporting this issue.

This issue seems odd since numerous notifications should not lead to the entire launcher/device lagging.

Could you narrow down the cause by disabling notifications from Facebook Messenger during the night? (Long press Facebook Messenger > App info > Notifications > disable the uppermost toggle)

I'll disable Facebook notifications and report if it happens again. I'm in agreement it's odd behavior as I've woken up to 15-20 messages the past few days with no issue. The launcher lag and crash has happened once before, but I only paid enough attention to report it this time. It hasn't happened since I reported the issue.
