While this is a duplicate of #152
I would like to ask some questions as to correctly add this information to the aforementioned issue.
If I understand you correctly, you want to be able to mark apps as important. Then, those apps' notifications would somehow show up on the homescreen alongside the favorites.
Could you please elaborate on what kind of notifications you seem urgent enough to appear like that? Please also list some example apps you would mark as important.
I apologize for the duplicate issue. I did search the issues, not sure how I missed the existing one!
Thank you for the follow-up question. Below are some examples of how I see this feature being useful. All of them generally are apps that are not used frequently enough to be on the home screen, but may occasionally pop up an important notification.
Thanks for the reply and the examples.
What makes you want to have these apps' notifications directly in Niagara Launcher instead of Android's regular notification shade (the one you can access by swiping down from the top)? Is it that you want to only see specific apps' notification, that you have manually selected?
Thanks for the follow-up questions! Pretty much exactly as you wrote, I would prefer to have the notifications from selected apps shown right on the home screen. They are much more obvious when shown on the home screen. The alternative is to notice the tiny icon in the upper corner, swipe down, and then scroll through all of the notifications (even the less important ones from other apps).
Having notifications appear on the home screen in my view is sort of a halfway step between collecting them in "scheduled summary" (which doesn't interrupt the user) versus an instant pop up (which interrupts the user the most).
Thanks!
@presto8 Do you want that instead of the global notification tray?
Is your feature request related to a problem?
Notifications management is, in general, an area where Android lags behind iOS in my opinion. One feature I miss from iOS is the ability to prioritize notifications from apps.
Most of the time, I prefer to collect notifications using the "scheduled summary" feature of Niagara Launcher. However, there are times that I would like to allow notifications to override the scheduled summary and show a notification. Sometimes I have missed important notifications because the app is not on my favorites list (and thus not on the home screen) and I don't see the notification.
Describe the solution you'd like
Add a feature that allows "priority notifications" to show up on the home screen. If the app is not already on the home screen, it would temporarily be elevated to home screen status in order that the notification text would be visible below the app name (exactly as it works today with notifications). Once the notification has been acknowledged, the app would no longer receive special elevation priority and would be removed from the home screen if necessary. (The automatic adding and removing of apps from the home screen in this feature would be similar in principle to how audio-related applications can be configured to automatically appear on the home screen when headphones are connected.)
By default, no apps would have be included in the priority notification group. Apps would be manually placed by the user into the priority notification group.
