[rocko] Changes from Morty #251

This set of changes from Morty are needed in Rocko in order to get this branch au pair with recent developments from Morty.

Rocko wsan't on par on purpose. We don't want a PR for that, we cherry-pick as needed. It wasn't done yet because I wanted to see some results on Morty first.
