unable to see budget and numbers beyond a certain point

in the event large purchases are made, or perhaps the user is using weak currency (rupees), he or she is unable to see beyond 9 digits. this will affect the user's visibility when using the app - cannot really see his or her budget.

This is intended, so that the application's UI does not get messed up.

The target audience is that of SoC students as well, therefore we do not foresee this being an issue as long as it is in SGD.

Lastly,

This might not be a very realistic amount for our target users.

Technically speaking, no where in the DG or UG talks about SGD. A student who is not from Singapore (i.e. Indonesian) who enters into NUS as a Computing student (thus satisfying your User case) and is entering Singapore for the first time, might choose to not put it in SGD because they are not familiar with the conversion yet.
