This happened to me, it turned out, the internet speed was so slow that it did not have time to download the 1 mb test file in 1 minute, (so it shows as offline, and gives this message "unable to test speed" )I changed the time to 5 minutes, chose a smaller file (100 kb file) and it worked
I used test file from this site: http://www.engineerhammad.com/2015/04/Download-Test-Files.html 100 kb file, or you can just google "Download test file" and choose a small one
see other issue https://github.com/A9T9/Speed-Test-Loggger/issues/18
The software does not work as expected, displaying a message "No Internet connection", and failing to display valid test results in the log pane. My internet connection is however fine. See picture splw1.png.
My first and only guess is my network configuration does not get properly detected. I use WiFi and a VPN over that WiFi; the DNS on the WiFi is disabled to prevent DNS leaking. See picture splw2.png.
