Sadly this application crashes when testing any larger files. Tested on a clean install windows 7 VM as well as windows 10. I've been unable to find anything that duplicates its functionality, downloading a large file from a server of my choosing and logging the speeds over time.

I can't even get it to download a file once. Tried on Windows 11 bare metal, and Windows 10 and 8 VMs. Confirmed file is working by pasting URL in a browser. Tried turning off Windows Firewall. Just Error every time.

Looks like a great project, but I'm stumped.

My observation is that the test servers themselves impose restriction on who can download. So far I was able to find a working test file server from a probably 5th try. It looks like https://ash-speed.hetzner.com files are working. Probably, modern-day servers become more restricted in terms of who can download the files. Many download links, which work fine in a browser, when inserted in a download manager start getting an "invalid user name" error. I would suggest that the logging app could be improved by impersonating a casual browser agent, like Chrome or Firefox.
