Propose a new WGAS SIG #3

Have an idea for a WGAS Special Interest Group that can take concrete actions to further the interests of AAS members working in astronomical software? Leave a comment.

Is there an interest in forming a SIG for developing architectures and best practices for software at scale? I will define this broadly as any distributed applications too big to run on your desktop.

I am wondering if it is within the purview of this august body to have SIG for promoting healthy practices on software design, development and testing? Cheers Bruce

I'm not certain how hard it would be to find members for this, but a SIG on software education in astronomy would certainly have plenty of things to keep it busy. By "education", I mean both formal graduate and undergraduate level classes, as well as more workshop-oriented programs like scicoder (@demitri or @adrn might have interest in this?)

Definitely interested, and yes, there is a huge need for this. The SciCoder workshop sells out every year, but the course should reach far more people than it does.I've always wanted to look into funding to make this happen, but I'm spread pretty thin. I have many ideas in this space.
