Issue with adding a footnote in a figure caption #120

Open mkounkel opened 4 years ago

mkounkel commented 4 years ago

Adding a footnote to a caption of a figure results in wonky formatting in AASTex 6.3. If the caption is longer than a line, the footnote is added twice. This doesn't appear to happen if the caption can fit into a single line, but, regardless, it is added within the bounding box of a figure, not at the bottom of the page, which results in an odd wrapping of the text around it, especially is figure the width of a full page rather than a column. Attaching a latex example for this issue. Archive.zip

@mkounkel Thank you! We will take a look now.

@gregschwarz Why does this issue seem so familiar as if we know about this bug? I can't find anything public on github or in our support email queue indicating a solution. Is it a bug fix for 6.4 (aka 6.3.1)?

Is there a resolution to this issue? I am currently encountering it

augustfly commented 1 year ago

I am looking into it, but at the moment, no.

Well, this might be upstream: https://texfaq.org/FAQ-ftncapt

so can I ask what the official AAS journal recommendation is for a url in a caption? This is citing the source of an image displayed in the figure

augustfly commented 1 year ago

You could leave it inline to the text: "Image in panel Q from Joe DePasquale (\url{https://....})."
