Add introduction to quickstart documentation #95

This PR tries to clarify the process for using the catalog by adding an introductory section to usage/quickstart.ipynb that explains the general process for using the catalog. This hopefully provides some needed context for the examples that then follow. Attempts have also been made to clarify those examples.
