Guidelines for how to best manage data sets for testing utilities. These data sets and the tests should eventually become the basis of rose-stem tests.

The ultimate aim is to have a complete set of test suites for all utilities. However, given where we are coming from, this will be an evolutionary approach, with tests added and developed from now on.

If test data is small enough then the data can probably be stored under svn.

Larger data sets should be stored under /g/data/test/.... or similar

• should record the checksums for these files
• the code owner should have write permission, but that is about all.
  • They should only be updated when the trunk is updated.

There was also a suggestion about using "git annex"

• files can be stored off-line, not actually within git
• this is being investigated by BNOC
