What would be a good place to start for someone who is not familiar with the literature on spatial extremes? Is there something better than the 2011 discussion paper by Davison, Padoan and Ribatet here?
Another good paper to start with is the following: http://journal-sfds.fr/ojs/index.php/J-SFdS/article/view/184/170
Environmental extremes such as floods, heat waves, storms etc. are a very "hot" topic at the moment. There is a lot of interest from people in climate change but also a lot of interesting maths (extremes of stochastic processes, ...).
Note that extremes are also important in other areas such as finance for example.
It would be nice to define what are some interesting problems to solve and what are the challenges on a maths point of view.
Would anyone be interested in that?
