I'm in the same boat... Wired tether is needed for my situation since there are 
too many wireless networks in my area to make that option viable.

It would be nice if this worked since the froyo roms  with built in USB 
tethering are not very stable.

I've posted a new issue [1] which contains a patch to provide (Froyo) Galaxy S 
support.  In addition, I have a build of Wired Tether available [2] that 
integrates this patch for folks who are interested.
