From hereon I will self-host the relevant fonts instead.

Reasoning:

Google may change (and has done so) critical font characteristics without any update to those using them. See this reddit thread for reference.
Google Fonts are used to track us across the web. 22.7% of ALL websites use GFonts, and 87% of the most visited 10K websites use GFonts. Yeah, no.
