I've tried a number of drawer systems including some of my own design. What I have found is that those little bits on the front designed to hold a label do not work too well in practice. They tend to not hold the label very firmly and it is easy to brush the top of the label, perhaps while removing an adjacent drawer, which pulls it right out. They are also not very tolerant of undersized labels.
After some experimentation I settled on a different design that I used in my component drawers, where the label is fully enclosed on all 4 sides, as in the photo. The label holder becomes an integral part of the front face of the drawer.
To implement this design,
the front face of the drawer is thickened somewhat (side benefit - stronger handle).
A slot is punched down from the top. The slot is the full width of the label plus a bit to allow for easy insertion. Chamfers can be added at the top to make a "funnel" to guide the label in.
A rectangular window is punched from the front so that the label can be seen.
The label then drops in from the top and is very hard to remove by accident, but easy to remove deliberately. I have found that this design also prints more reliably and does not require cleanup after printing. Generous margins can be used which allows for a good tolerance in the size of labels. It is hard to cut labels with millimeter accuracy!
There's a CAD model of my design at https://a360.co/3buz332 - I would love to see something like this included in the Ultimate Drawer System.
