Legacy Bug ID: 2016 Author: Shaun Geoff Inman-Bamber Date: 2014-12-16 16:44:55 +0000 UTC

Changes requested by Geoff Inman-Bamber as an extension to the BSES More Crop Per Drop project that was contracted to CSIRO Plant Industry division.

The point was to add in the new science into the Apsim Sugar module gleaned from hourly transpiration work on Sugarcane done in glasshouse experiments. GxMxE experiments.

Also added a TE and RUE response to CO2

This was completed by 30 Dec 2014, see Revision 3619

Geoff is currently working on a paper in conjunction with Phillip Jackson et al. that describes these changes made to the sugar module and comparing the results of these changes to experimental data that he has measured. After publication of this paper I believe it is his intention is to officially apply to have the changes incorporated into the official version of Apsim using the paper as the main justification for the new functionality.

See the following documents attached for more information on what these changes were and the outcomes of the changes made.

Please note that a visiting phd student from Brasil (one of Peter Thorburns) has been using these unoffical changes to help him do some modelling work of sugarcane in Brasil.

His name is 'Leandro Garcia Costa''  (legarcosta@gmail.com)

Jody Biggs and Peter Thorburn can tell you more about what he was working on exactly.

Also Geoff Inman Bamber has recently requested access to the Sugar Validation data set to test out these changes on the sugar validation dataset.

Please note these changes were made to the fortran Apsim Classic not the DotNet ApsimX.

It would be beneficial for these changes to be implemented into ApsimX DotNet Version if they are to be officially released.

But they could be released as they currently are, in the next official Apsim Classic release.

FYI: The DotNet ApsimX version is very similar to the Fortran version. Since the attempt to implement sugar in Plant2 failed a straight port was done. This means adding these new features to the DotNet version should not be too difficult.
