Modelling ratoon rice #2154

Closed KeLiu7 closed 2 years ago

KeLiu7 commented 2 years ago

I'm trying to simulate ratoon rice with APSIM Oryza and I found APSIM sugar has the ratoon management parameters. I'm wondering if we can copy those parameters into APSIM Oryza then APSIM Oryza is able to simulate ratoon rice?

Does anyone has the interest or relevant experience? Many thanks!!

@DonaldGaydon might have direct experience here, but I suspect that functionality has not been explored - oryza was a fairly straight port of the WUR code.

It's common in our sorghum systems up north, and we've been able to get a long way by writing manager logic to sow immediately after the 1st harvest at a very shallow planting depth so that it emerges immediately. Leaf number / development may present rice more challenges than sorghum though.

Yes, Pete is correct, no ability to do that in APSIM Classic Rice….. if important, might be something for APSIM-NextGen Rice

Ratoon rice is very popular in Asia nowadays and I already got many inquiries from China. Dr Tao Li tried to model it with Oryza_R (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0378429019304836) but this has not been integrated into APSIM,

If we can do this, I think our APSIM community might attract many new users. Do you have interests in this?

Hi Ke, no I personally don’t have time or interest in developing or implementing this capacity, however Dr Ando Radanielson is leading the development of APSIM-NextGen Rice and she would be the one to talk to. Email: @.**@.>.

Best wishes, Don
