Legacy Bug ID: 1214 Author: Robert Robert Zyskowski Date: 2010-11-03 16:47:28 +0000 UTC

STEP 1: PROPOSAL

Short description of the concept or proposed improvements:

We propose implementing a Kale Forage Model using the Pla nt 2 modelling structure.

Rationale and Justification:

Kale is a common forage crop in New Zealand and knowledge is required of its phsiology and best management to handle excessive nitrogen leaching.

Details of the proposed improvements:

Implement the model in Plant 2, modify nitrogen handling routines to match observed behaviour. Test against several years of trial.

Implications for users:

Kale is not currenlty in APSIM so no issues with backwards compatability.

If implented users will be able to simulate more forage systems.

Email sent to R Zyskowski 01/12/10 as follows:

Dear Robert,

I wish to acknowledge submission of APSIM Task ID 1214 - "Kale Forage Model". http://www.apsim.info/BugTracker/edit_bug.aspx?id=1214

The Reference Panel consider that this and a number of other tasks, is linked to a major review of .NET implementation within APSIM.

This review of .NET implementation will be completed by early February 2011, after which I will contact you with an update.

Regards

Email sent to Robert Zyskowski (Cc Howard Cox, Hamish Brown) on 04/04/11:

Dear Robert,

I refer to APSIM Task ID 1214 - Kale Forage Model http://www.apsim.info/BugTracker/sv-major_tasks.aspx?id=1214

You will remember that this Task was linked to a proposal to move the APSIM engine and components to the .NET framework. After due consideration this move to .NET has the in-principle support of the APSIM Initiative. To this end, the Reference Panel (RP) has approved the above task to proceed to Implementation (Step 3 in the attached Process for Incorporating Improvements into APSIM).

The next step is for you to undertake implementation and provide all the relevant documentation (e.g. science documentation, validation data, software code etc.).

I also need to flag that this task may be impacted by a proposal from Plant and Food Research to negotiate a separate APSIM enterprise licence. As it stands now, the task sits under the standard APSIM licensing framework, however that may change under an enterprise licence.

Howard Cox is the RP contact for this Task and would be happy to discuss the issue with you in more detail as required.

Regards

Chris Murphy Principal Project Officer (APSIM)
