After starting to write this issue I managed to get stuff on Github using the command line. This issue is therefore mostly a convience problem and no longer an emergency. I can live without Github Desktop, but decided to post the issue anyways just in case you knew a quick fix
I am no longer able to push stuff to Github nor able to create new repositories
error: unable to read askpass response from 'C:\Users\A-G-R\AppData\Local\GitHubDesktop\app-2.4.0\resources\app\static\ask-pass-trampoline.bat'
fatal: could not read Username for 'https://github.com': terminal prompts disabled
I assume that the issue appeared after I tried to install another version of conda in attempt to fix #16. Lots of other code management also broke at that time (python, gdal, environments)
Things I have tried, which doesn't work:
Reinstalling git and github desktop doesn't solve the issue
Somebody mentioned that they managed to fix the issue by deleting a file - I don't have a software folder under current user, so I'm struggling with copying this solution
Just wanted to comment that a previous installation of Miniconda had created a AutoRun key at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor\ Deleting the key fixed this problem for me.
Another common solution is to change from https to ssh interacting with git. However there is no feedback from github, when I run the command: git config --global url."git@github.com:".insteadOf "https://github.com/". I think the issue might be that my Github requires authentication from my phone, since another user mentioned that he couldn't use ssh because of security restrictions
