This tool can be used to generate minecraft spheres: https://www.plotz.co.uk/plotz-model.php?model=Sphere A hemisphere constructed by selecting layers [10, 21] with a sphere of diameter 21 gives a nice result.

Procedurally generating the half dome turned out to be the easier solution.
