I'm about a week away from releasing the next version.
I am seeing the project, and it is very good but it is outdated.
I think that a new design can bring life to this project.
But it has some difficulties:
[ ] don't use Jinja2 (Not necessary)
[ ] Too many Javascript that depends on the design (the project has many js files).
[ ] upgrade to Markdown 3
[ ] RSS Feed, nobody uses it and it can be removed.
[ ] Think about SEO. It is necessary to add in all external links. rel=”nofollow” (In the answers it is possible with Markdown)
[ ] A more powerful notification system. Can be used https://github.com/django-notifications/django-notifications
Those are the things that I have seen, your comments are welcome. I would like to know what you think.
I think a week has passed.
Working this weekend, have a good chance to finish.
I've made more progress on the pr-849-wip, been working on the askbot-setup
parameter validations, which is surprisingly pain-staking. Need to make the setup script simple enough and user friendly. I feel that I need 1-2 work days to finish.
And in the end it is really not that useful. A well documented settings_askbot.py
with a statement
from settings_askbot import *
in settings.py
probably is more helpful, more flexible and less error prone. After all, the old installer used to finish with an explicit instruction to make changes to settings.py
.
any update?
Hi,
yes the master branch now is Python 3.0 compatible and the askbot-setup script is working.
Will release on Pypi this weekend.
