Amin John #93

Doreen Lelega

Doreen is a highly experienced Communications Specialist with five years of expertise in Journalism and Public Relations. She has honed her skills through her work in media and government institutions, and has demonstrated her exceptional content development abilities through her current role at the Youth Empowerment Foundation.

Doreen's passion for journalism dates back to her school days, where she excelled in Music, Dance, and Drama. Her love of the newsroom has driven her to attain a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the Uganda Management Institute.

In addition to her role at the Youth Empowerment Foundation, Doreen also works at a CBO for girls, Train A Girl, Uganda, where she writes and directs the documentation of success stories for NGOs such as EMESCO Development Foundation, Adjumani District Local Government, UNHCR, and World Vision. Her dedication to journalism and media is further demonstrated by her initiation of the mentorship program Media4All, aimed at fostering the growth and development of young journalists in Adjumani.

Doreen is a driven and enthusiastic individual with a proven track record of success in her field.

John Bior Ajang

John Bior Ajang is a highly experienced South Sudanese technology and media trainer, serving as the Executive Director at ATAKA Hub South Sudan. He has been a dedicated contributor to various repair café events under the ASKnet project from 2019 to 2021, serving as a lead trainer at the Adjumani repair café event in 2019. With a deep understanding of technology and media, Bior is recognized as one of the pioneers of ASKOTEC kits and has recently facilitated training in Cameroon in 2021. Bior's strong background in technology and media training positions him well to continue making significant contributions to his field.

Maliamungu Richard #125

 Maliamungu Richard is a highly motivated and driven South Sudanese individual, currently residing in the Eden Rhino Camp refugee settlement in Uganda. His passion for technology and the environment stems from the adverse effects of the civil war that erupted in South Sudan in 2016. Despite the challenges, Maliamungu took initiative and pursued self-education by reading open source books, which led him to participate in numerous open tech events and later become an Adjunct Trainer for the r0g agency during the 2020 ASKnet project.

With a strong commitment to his community, Maliamungu is dedicated to promoting environmentally responsible practices through the creation of repair cafes in the Rhino Camp refugee settlement. He is focused on transforming broken devices and plastic materials into useful resources, ultimately building a community that prioritizes sustainability and waste reduction.

Nunas

Nunas Eluzai Manasseh is a computer science graduate from the University of Juba. She has gained practical experience through her involvement in initiatives such as Go-girls ICT, where she honed her skills in computer maintenance and repair, as well as the Internet of Things. In 2020, she participated in the Asknet training program and was part of a repair cafe at St. Thomas Secondary School in Juba, South Sudan.

Vuga William

Vuga William is a refugee residing in Pagriniya Refugee Settlement in Adjumani district, Uganda. He has faced several challenges as a refugee and has overcome them by establishing a Community-Based Organization, the Youth Empowerment Foundation, aimed at providing skills and knowledge to both refugees and host communities in the refugee camps. He is a tech advocate and community transformer who has acquired his skills through peer-to-peer learning and workshops, including working on the Defyhatenow project. Vuga William has successfully organized several meetups and workshops for his community and has established YEF as a hub for young people to access information and education.

Mawa Robert

Mawa Robert is a South Sudanese national born on April 1st, 1996. He spent his formative years in Yei, South Sudan where he received his education. However, due to the civil war that erupted in the country, he was forced to leave in 2016 and has since been residing in Uganda. With a strong desire to contribute to the next generation, Mawa Robert is determined to engage in skills innovation and make a positive impact in the lives of others.

Dut Kulang

Dut is a talented and self-taught web designer and programmer based in Adjumani, Uganda. He has a strong background in using open source tools and frameworks and has honed his skills through self-study and experimentation. Dut's passion for technology was sparked at a young age when he discovered the joy of programming through games like "Need for Speed." At the age of 14, he taught himself Python and has since continued to expand his skillset, becoming proficient in web design and programming. Despite the challenges of being a refugee, Dut has shown determination and a drive to continuously improve his skills. He is a quick-thinking, self-motivated individual who leverages the support of his community to shape his own path.

Jaiksana #198

Jaiksana Soro is a visionary innovator from South Sudan who has dedicated himself to creating positive change through technology, media, and education. Forced to move to a refugee camp in Uganda in 2016 due to armed conflicts, Jaiksana observed the challenges facing communities in these environments and was inspired to found Platform Africa. Through this organization, he empowers young refugees to move towards a more equitable, informed, and resilient society. Jaiksana has made significant contributions to the fields of social media and technology, including creating initiatives to raise awareness about hate speech and online incitement of violence, as well as developing #ASKotec – a hands-on technical resource and repair kit for community trainers. Additionally, Jaiksana is an accomplished writer, music producer, and advocate for veganism and sustainable living.

Romeo Ronald Lomora

Romeo is a highly skilled professional podcaster and audio storyteller with a background as a South Sudanese refugee. He is a strong advocate for open-source tools and open knowledge, and leverages open GIS tools like QGIS to promote the use of mapping in addressing community challenges. As a leader in Platform Africa, Romeo oversees the organization's open knowledge hub and drives initiatives such as Wiki4Refugees and #OpenMapping to provide refugees with access to open source tools and knowledge. Romeo's work is instrumental in transforming communities through the power of technology and open information.

Wafela Andrew

Andrew is a highly skilled open-source technician, with a passion for learning new methodologies in technology. He has been working in the field for over 20 years and has earned the nickname "Doctor Device" in his hometown. In 2019, he was introduced to the world of open source technology through his collaboration with the Executive Director of Youth Empowerment Foundation, Vuga William. Together, they worked on various projects, including the #ASKotec initiative and the development of LED lights. Andrew's expertise was further showcased in the late 2019 community repair cafe in Adjumani, where he had the opportunity to meet and learn from experts in open tech from various parts of the world, including Sudan, Kenya, and Berlin. Andrew's dedication to open source technology has made him a valuable asset in his community.

Dawa Edina

Dawa Edina Hillary is a highly skilled Information Technology professional with extensive experience in data management, electronics repair and maintenance, video editing, web development, and basic programming. Holding a diploma in Information Technology, she has demonstrated her expertise through her various roles as an IT technician, ICT instructor, M&E assistant, and community girls teacher. With a passion for using technology to drive community development, she is the Co-Founder of Community Creativity for Development (CC4D), where she currently serves as the gender advocate, finance and admin manager. Born in Rhino Camp refugee settlement in Uganda and forced to become a refugee once again due to tribal conflict in South Sudan, Dawa's experiences have driven her to become a dedicated advocate for gender equality and empowerment through technology.

Ghai tong

Michael Ghai Tong is a talented South Sudanese national with a strong background in journalism and conflict resolution. He is a graduate of Malek Secondary School and has completed relevant courses in journalism and peacekeeping from the Kofi Annan Peace Training Centre and Peace Operations Training Institute. With experience in media and communications, Michael has held positions such as Private Secretary and Assistant Editor for the Jonglei State Ministry of Information and Communication, Program Manager for Radio Jonglei 95.9 FM and Radio Duk Padiet 96.6 FM, and Program Secretary for the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS), Bor branch. In addition to his professional pursuits, Michael is an active member of the Jonglei Civil Society Network and serves as a youth leader and information secretary for the Duk Padiet youth community in Bor town.

Mathew Lubari

Matthew is a highly resourceful and innovative individual with a passion for information and communications technology (ICT). He possesses exceptional computer network, hardware and software support skills and has a proven track record of conducting effective ICT skills training. Matthew has excellent organizational skills and is a dedicated team player with the ability to work proactively in fast-paced office environments. He has extensive experience in ICT and related fields, having worked for 4 years at the Community Technology Empowerment Network (CTEN), starting as a volunteer and working his way up to the position of Project Manager. He also has a wealth of experience volunteering for organizations such as Real Medicine Foundation, Action Against Hunger, and MSF France, where he served as a Community Health Worker, Community Informant, and provided surveillance and data collection and analysis services. Matthew is proficient in Windows XP, Windows 7, 8 & 10, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access), Open Office and Linux OS, and is skilled in configuring and troubleshooting LAN and wireless LAN networks. He possesses excellent written and oral communication skills and is capable of leading and managing teams effectively. He has been featured in a podcast episode with the “Restart Project” to discuss his projects and expertise.

Yine Beatrice

As a dedicated and passionate South Sudanese woman, I have leveraged the challenges I have faced in my life to create solutions that empower myself and others. Through the formation of GOGirls ICT initiative, I have helped to address a number of tech-related challenges and build confidence, self-awareness, and self-realization in the women of my community. I am proud to be part of the #ASKnet community, which supports my dream of creating a safe and empowering environment for girls and young women to develop their skills and become self-reliant.

Joyce Akele

Joyce Akele is a highly motivated and skilled media student at Makerere University with a strong focus on both media and technology. She has expertise in various media-related programs such as radio features, podcasts, and ICT literacy programs, as well as basic tech repairs. She gained valuable experience through her participation in the ASKnet project where she served as a coordinator for a capacity-building session (Track 1) and was a member of a network of organizations dedicated to skill building and community information sharing.

Since 2018, Joyce has been an active participant in ASKnet programs and has developed a strong appreciation for the impact that media and technology can have in creating local solutions. This experience has inspired her to pursue her studies in media and has become a driving force in her academic and professional pursuits.

Joyce excels in team work and team building, has excellent communication skills, and is passionate about community capacity building through media literacy. Her areas of interest and performance include radio mini features, easy features, vox pops, photo essays, and interviews.

Ayom #126

Ayom Ruel Ayom is a well-rounded individual with a passion for both education and media. Born in Maar, Twic East County, Jonglei State, Ayom has a strong sense of community and desire to help others. With a background in business administration, he has honed his skills in various media outlets, including Radio Jonglei 95.9 FM and Voice of Reconciliation 98.4 FM. As a former reporter and presenter, Ayom has developed excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Additionally, Ayom has attended the ASKNET training program, where he expanded his knowledge in new technologies and tools for repairing electronic devices. He is currently working at ATAKA HUB, where he continues to demonstrate his dedication and drive for success. Ayom has a strong interest in empowering his community, particularly through the facilitation of business skills training and phone repair services. With one year left in his bachelor's degree program at Dr. John Garang University of Science and Technology, Ayom is poised for continued growth and success in his career.

Saki Daniel Comboni

Saki Daniel Comboni is a South Sudanese national residing in Adjumani district, Uganda. He is a seasoned professional with a rich background in business and finance, holding a Bachelor's degree in Business and Management with a major in Finance, as well as a Diploma in Accountancy and a Certificate in Administrative Law. This educational foundation has equipped him with a strong skill set in financial management, team work, and administration.

Saki is a co-founder of the Youth Empowerment Foundation, established in 2017, where he has served as the Financial Administrative Executive. Through his work with the foundation, Saki has demonstrated his commitment to supporting youth and empowering them to reach their full potential. The foundation provides a platform for youth to overcome their difficulties and build their skills, with a focus on promoting business, technology, and media literacy. Saki is passionate about creating a community that is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to embark on successful careers.

Arkangelo Lemi #98

Arkangelo Lemi is a dynamic individual residing in the Ocea C Rhino camp refugee settlement. He has received comprehensive training from Platform Africa, which has enabled him to effectively lead a purposeful life. Prior to his training at Platform Africa, Arkangelo lacked direction, but now, he has become a highly skilled individual, equipped with a wealth of knowledge in media, repairs, and the use of open source tools like audacity and open GIS. He currently heads a team of audio drama artists and mapping experts, who work together to create valuable information for their community. With his exceptional leadership skills and technical expertise, Arkangelo has become a key figure in driving positive change within the refugee settlement.

Job Sanya #102

Job Robert Sanya is a South Sudanese  residing in Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement in Uganda. He is a dedicated individual who is passionate about creating a sustainable and better society within his community. His expertise in skills such as audio production, information and communication technology, and photography has greatly impacted his community.

As a result of his commitment, Job has taken on the role of a teacher at Hope Primary School in Ocea. He uses his skills and knowledge to educate children and provide them with the opportunity to learn and access education. Through his tireless efforts, Job is making a difference in the lives of those around him and working towards a better future for his community.

Samuel Divinda #100

Samuel Divinda is a talented Congolese refugee residing in Uganda, with a passion for music and creativity. With a strong foundation in ICT skills, he has been able to push his career as a musician, leveraging technology to create art that inspires and motivates. With a strong commitment to using his abilities for positive change within his community, Samuel has become a responsible and innovative force for good, using his skills to help others and make a difference.

Sunday Guido Elias

Meet Sunday Guido Elias, a talented South Sudanese woman with a passion for Information Technology. Born and raised in Juba, she has a Diploma in Science in Information Technology from the University of Juba and a certificate in General Electricity and Wiring. Sunday is currently upgrading her IT skills at the University of Juba, where she balances her theoretical knowledge with a practical approach. With her diverse skill set, Sunday is poised to make significant contributions to the IT industry.

Martin iklas #99

Miss Iklas Martin, a South Sudanese, is a recent graduate of the GoGirls ICT Initiative where she honed her skills in media and podcasting. She is a creative individual who leverages her newfound expertise to address and find solutions to the pressing issues affecting her community through the use of podcasts as a medium. Iklas Martin is a testament to the power of technology and its role in catalyzing positive change in communities.
