1) On the issue of negative potentials, I need to investigate and look at some examples. There shouldn’t be that much downward movement in pinji. Is it in principle possible for a potential to be negative as a result of a move that is lateral in terms of bureaucratic rank? 2) Please do a separate run of qiren and send the complete file of potentials to me and Bijia. What will be most interesting are the potentials of bitieshi according to which jigou they started service in. 3) We continue to expand the dataset and we are now at 3.3 million records. I hope that once or twice before you can leave, you can rerun with updated data. 4) Please check with Mordecai on prospects for publishing/presenting a paper in computer science describing the method. If that doesn’t seem like a likely prospect, let’s write something up and put it into ArXiv that has you as lead-author so we have something to cite when we publish analyses that make use of the potentials. That would also give me something to send to people at Stanford when I introduce you to them. 5) Clean up the bar graph of provinces along the lines we described. 6) Double-check your cut-off date. The 郵傳部 doesn’t really come into existence until 1907 so the example you showed must have included records from after 1905. Also the northeastern provinces aren’t identified separately after 1906. Make sure you are throwing out ALL records from 1905 or later, not just people whose careers start in 1905 or later. right. count from 1.85810^6 to 1.61510^6.

cutoff date -> bar graph -> negative -> seperate run of qiren
