Prepare for CY2024 and remove python 2.x support #1407

Describe the enhancement Support CY2024, which means python 3.11 and remove python 2.7 support

Additional context Things to be done :

Update grpcio-tools. Updating grpcio-tools breaks the pylint tests due to protobuf 3.20+ which generates files that pylint doesn't understand.
~~Remove six (Python 2 and 3 compatibility library) usage~~ (is needed by other modules anyway)
Remove python 2.x specific modules in requirements.txt and requirements_gui.txt
Update pylint to 2.17.7 (and fix lots of new pylint errors)
