Metric badges (e.g., number of stars)

I could add number of stars badges easily for GitHub repos, as in github.com/meirwah/awesome-workflow-engines. I could also add number of citations or some other metric for the manuscripts, as in https://juleskreuer.eu/projekte/citation-badge/

For example,

Would also be nice if it could take you to the Google Scholar page to look at the citing articles. And I don't like how it doesn't appear very "inline" with the text, so I'd want to have it better vertically aligned or resized.
