Energy loss, energy straggling and angular straggling in ActarSim #7

Aim : check if AcarSim Energy loss and straggling correspond to LISE++ and SRIM calculations

Here is the Energy loss study for C12 across 300mm of absorber composed of Deuterium gas (1atm, 0.167 mg/cm3) for different incident energies.

The ion energy distribution at the end of the absorber. At 40MeV we observed a non-gaussian distribution. In fact we are closed to a 300mm range so maybe it explain this strange shape. I use the RMS as energy straggling :

For the angle straggling, I used the positions at the step's edges and put into vectors. Here is the distribution of the angle between the last angle and the beam axis. I used the mean value as the angular straggling :

Here is the summary of energy loss, energy and angular straggling versus different LISE++ methods of calculation. We can see that for the straggling there are huge difference between the different methods used :
