I'm Julien Vanier, Director of Engineering for Particle. As Chris noted above, Particle is an Internet of Things company. Our API is for management of internet-connected products created by our customers and has nothing to do with ads. This block is affecting our customer's ability to log in to their Particle account and manage their fleet of devices. We feel this block has been added by mistake. Can you please correct this situation?
Here are the lines in question in the hosts file
# [particle.io]
127.0.0.1 api.particle.io
I added this at the source: https://github.com/AdAway/adaway.github.io/issues/28
Bruce @PerfectSlayer and Daniel @Vankog may I ask you to acknowledge this specific issue? Thank you!
Hi Steven, Thank you for bringing attention to this. AdAway update the list. https://github.com/AdAway/adaway.github.io/issues/28
@No1089 @monkbroc @StevenBlack Thanks for the ping and sorry for the annoyance. @jawz101 is in charge of the hosts file and he was very quick to handle it. Kudos to him 👍
AdAway auto update is daily so it should be fixed soon to your users devices. About your trouble, I'm curious to know how much this hosts source is used by your users and if you loose a lot of traffic?
Hi @PerfectSlayer ,
I am Matthew Stanley, one of our Enterprise Support Engineers at Particle. Happy to answer your questions.
Particle is an IoT platform for building internet connected products. Customers are not leveraging hosts blocks in Particle itself, but are impacted by having hosts blocking on their network.
All device and account management goes through our API. Our own console and mobile apps leverage api.particle.io. Users can also consume this API directly for their own applications.
Particle is used both at scale and for prototyping developers. As our developers are often technical, many of them make use of adblocking services, such as the PiHole. Therefore, this addition caused significant issues for our customers consuming Particle on their own networks, as it restricted console, mobile, and API access to their account and devices.
I hope this helps!
Hi there!
api.particle.io is part of your blocklist and causing major headaches at our support department. Could you please assist in removing our API? We are a legitimate IoT company operating out of San Francisco.
