It may be that you have blocked the "Recommend Twitter App" banner; delete your cookies and the banner will appear. Select "Not now" for "I recommend the Twitter app. Select "Not now" for "Turn on notifications" as well. The media player will play automatically. This may be a difficult phenomenon to reproduce.

Additional explanation. I checked and it seems that the Twitter media player only autoplay when connected to Wi-Fi, not 4G+.
