Comment

Almost none of polish websites are working after iOS 17.1.1 update although having AdGuard newest updated version installed that should fix the latest issue. I have to add exceptions for almost every website so AdGuard is useless. Username: @RobaloAmigo

@RobaloAmigo Hello. If you disable DNS filtering - does the problem persist? Or maybe it depend on the specific filter enabled?

RobaloAmigo commented 8 months ago

Nothing was touched with AdGuard config. Only iOS update from version 16 to 17 was done and then i noticed all these AdGuard issues. When I switch "DNS Filtering" off then websites are loadig correctly, with ADs of course.

@RobaloAmigo If you switch the DNS server to a non-filtering one, the pages don't load as well?

You wrote that if you disable DNS, then ads appear, if I understand correctly filtering with filters in safari also does not work? In this case please try to disable-enable content blockers in Safari settings and restart Safari, and check for filters update. Do not close AdGuard window 30-60 seconds.

RobaloAmigo commented 8 months ago

Hello I forget to mention that I am using Chrome only. When I switch DNS server to AdGuard non-filtering one then yes, I confirm that pages don't load as well.

Let's try disabling DNS filtering completely and check if the pages will load:

  1. Enable non-filtering DNS
  2. Disable filters: DNS protection --> DNS filtering --> DNS filters --> AdGuard DNS filter - disable
RobaloAmigo commented 8 months ago

as I said before, when I switch DNS filtering completely then pages are loading but with all ads

Am I understanding correctly that if you don't disable DNS as a function in the app, but specifically disable ad/tracking filtering in DNS (as described above) - the pages load?

RobaloAmigo commented 8 months ago

No. Pages are only loading when DNS is turned off completely as a function. In all other cases pages are not loading.

The log shows that you have added filters that are not suitable for DNS filtering. Please, try disabling all third-party added filters, leaving only AdGuard DNS Filter with AdGuard DNS server and check the pages again.

RobaloAmigo commented 8 months ago

Interesting. Could you please send me list of filters that are not suitable for DNS filtering and why? These filters are most popular ones used in Poland. Did I misunderstand something when adding these filters?

For example: https://www.i-dont-care-about-cookies.eu/abp/ - this filter has the AdBlock syntax and is more suited for ad blocker than for DNS. This filter has cosmetic rules to remove html elements on the page, DNS does not know how to recognise these rules.

jellizaveta commented 8 months ago

All filters that are added - have cosmetic rules. And HaGeZi Personal Black & White filter has invalid url

RobaloAmigo commented 8 months ago

Thanks for explanation. I thought that AdGuard works also as system-wide Adblocker on iOS like it works on Android so I can use DNS and also AdBlock rules. Now I have disabled all the 3rd party DNS filters and now websites are loading, but still there are few ads, for example http://wp.pl - there is ad on the top, please see attached screenshot.

Of course, most ads are blocked correctly.

AdGuard works as an adblocker in the browser as well, but only for safari due to iOS system limitations. To block some adverts, DNS blocking is not enough and cosmetic rules are needed. You can enable AdGuard Base filter, language polish filters, and other filters depending on what you would like to see blocked in the blocker settings Protection tab --> Safari protection --> Filters

RobaloAmigo commented 8 months ago

Thanks. As I am using Chrome only on iOS it seems that AdGuard is not for me. You can close this case.

Good. Happy to help! If you might want to keep using the DNS feature, here are a couple of Polish language filters used by AdGuard in the https://adguard-dns.io/ service (the service allows to set up a private DNS server). These filters fit the DNS format and can be added as custom filters: CERT Polska List of malicious domains https://hole.cert.pl/domains/domains_adblock.txt Polish filters for Pi hole https://raw.githubusercontent.com/MajkiIT/polish-ads-filter/master/polish-pihole-filters/hostfile.txt

RobaloAmigo commented 8 months ago

Thanks, I'll check them out.
