App Banner Advertisement and Notification Pop-up

To reproduce, you need the following requirements: a) a smartphone with WhatsApp installed, b) an active WhatsApp account, c) at least one chat

  1. Open WhatsApp, go to settings, connected devices, Add a device
  2. Scan the QR code on web.whatsapp.com
  3. When your chat loads, there is on the right the App advertisement (screenshot 1)
  4. now click on one chat that appear on the riight -> now you get a sticky App Downloadbanner on bottom of your contactlist (screenshot 2)
  5. On top there is a sticky begging to enable browser notification (you can enable in settings of the page if needed)

The annoyance is, even when you click away, they reappearance when closing page and reload (even when store Cookies). When you use web.whatsapp.com, you obbviously don't want use the App from Microsoft store as this count for any Smartbanner. Username: @Morku

Fixed the app banners,

Due to nature of website I am not sure if we should hide the notification one: web.whatsapp.com#?##side > span:has(> div[class]:only-child > div[class]:only-child > div[class] > div[class]:contains(notification))

@AdamWr what is your opinion about notification?

AdamWr commented 1 week ago

I don't see notification banner on my end (maybe I have closed it once and it's not displayed anymore), so I'm not sure. If you think that it shouldn't be blocked, then it probably shouldn't. By the way, web.whatsapp.com is in HTTPS exclusions.

BlazDT commented 1 week ago

Now it is at least blocked for extensions.

OT: Whats your personal recommendation for pages of HTTPS exclusions? Just remove it from AGfW? Or additionally install the Extension, invert positivlist and add the related pages?

For notification pop-up it's up to, maybe AdamWr automatically allows notification, but if you decide against it, you always get that sticky pop-up. You can control in settings here:

No, I don't. As I recall, I closed this message once and now it's not displaying again.

Whats your personal recommendation for pages of HTTPS exclusions?

Personally I just remove a website from HTTPS exclusions list.

Thank you, you are right :)
