Flashing 4G symbol on Huawei P30 Pro #3358

Issue Details

Actual Behavior

A user noticed that occasionally when he connected to Wifi, the 4G symbol above reception bars flashes intermittently. It will appear for half a second, disappear for 10 seconds and then come back. It also seems to noticeably increase battery consumption. The issue no longer occurs after restarting the protection.

User who brought up the bug here. I have been using another VPN (Windscribe) for a while now and have just noticed that the same issue happens after a while. As soon as I stop the VPN, the network data symbol stops flashing.

I have just noticed a setting in my WiFi options called WiFi+ which 'Automatically switches between WiFi and mobile data to stay online'. I have now disabled that and will see if I continue to have the same issue with both Windscribe and Adguard

Disabling Wifi+ didn't fix the issue

Having the same problem on huawei mate 20 X android 10. When it happens the "phone services" process gets triggered and acts as a battery drainer under battery usage stats.

Just wanted to add a temporary fix until it's fixed. Since it happens when there're some kind of network switch, disabling "pref.vpn.disable.reconfigure" in low level settings has helped.

2296602 reports that the issue persists:

Проблема с появлением 4g (появляется и сразу исчезает и так пока не выключишь защиту и опять включишь) при использовании 5g wi fi так и не решилась. Растёт из-за этого нагрузка на батарейку.
