If you are going to use dnsmasq EDNS subclient packet max to 1232 while 1280 used to be recommended a few servers still limit it to 1232 and dnsmasq fallback seems broken as it will only fallback for a limited period of time before retrying again the original value resulting in log spam only if you use dnsmasq
