Because each question is meant to be self-contained (rather than the entire post forming a single article), footnotes should be positioned at the end of the question rather than the entire article.
A PR should be submitted that renders the footnotes similar to the style used on our WordPress website (but retaining standard web typographical elements, e.g. links being coloured blue):
